Applies to: SmarterMail v3.x and higher
As we know there is no direct way or tool provided by any Windows based Organization to transfer the all E-Mails with their settings (like: Password) to another/new server installed on another Machine or network. Here, I am providing you with the simple and tested steps for doing this without taking much headache.
Backup SmarterMail E-Mail:
Taking backup of this server is so simple just do the following steps:
1. Go to C:\SmarterMail\Domains
2. Copy the folder named with your domain i.e. Abc.com
3. Copy it to any backup device or where you want
That’s it. Now you have a copy of all E-Mail Id’s on Domain Abc.com with their data.
Restoring SmarterMail E-Mail :
Restore is bit complex do follow the following steps in same order, change in the steps cause damage or make you to do all over again so be careful. If you follow these steps in sequence as provided I guarantee it will take few minutes to restore. Of course timings are based on your system configuration and Data Speed.
1. Login as Admin to SmarterMail server
2. Add Domain on your new system with exactly same name you want to restore (Abc.com). This will create a folder with the name you provide at path by default C:\SmarterMail\Domains (C:\SmarterMail\Domains\Abc.com according to our example)
3. Select the domain and then select edit(go to edit option for this domain)
4. Disable the Domain from its editing section. Save the settings
5. After disable check for sure the Red before the domain name
6. If it is red settings were saved else just disable it again
7. Copy the folder that contain your backup (e:\Abc.com) to location C:\SmarterMail\Domains or where to create the domain.
8. System will ask you for overwrite select All.
9. After copying the data login again as Admin
10. Enable the domain by deselecting Disable domain option
11. Save the settings
12. Click on reload Domain/Data. This reload option is at different places according to your mail server version. But it does mainly exist With Edit option or inside the edit option form.
13. Now what check your E-Mails
14. This will restore all E-Mails with their all mails, folders and passwords as exists on previous server.
For restoring as addition to existing mail or creating 1000’s of mails within minutes I will post another blog because it need more concentration and creating E-Mail need software support. Moreover this work in something like hack so………
